There is one anecdote about when the King was putting down the Jacobite rebellion the army had reached Yorkshire and they had marched so far their shoes wore out. So they sent a message to London saying 'send 10,000 brogues'. This got misheard along the line and they sent up 10,000 rogues - and they have been there ever since.
So maybe there is not much difference between Yorkshire and Australia....

I have so much enjoyed the sailing. Here is a little clip to give you a taste. Word of warning...it's an Irish commentary.

Well, tomorrow afternoon ITV have the Chelsea v Manchester City Charity Shield ( that is what it used to be called, no idea what it is now ) pre-season match.

That's it, all over. Samantha Murray grabs Pentathlon Silver to take our total haul to 65 medals, up from 47 in Beijing four years ago.

Bloody well done, each and every one of the Team GB competitors.

Blimey, I'm getting tearful here. Just seen Mo's interview on TV and I LOVE HIM!

I never got tickets unfortunately which is a blow as I live only a few miles from the Olympic Park, but have got some for the paras at Greenwich and plugging away at getting some for the stadium. What a fabulous couple of weeks. I can't say I'm a sports fan, but just the atmosphere in London and the whole feelgood factor has given Londoners a great lift. It was immaculate. I always used to say I live in dirty, grotty old London, now I say I live in London - with pride.

Sorry, getting all emotional.
xxx Smile
