The new Olympus E-620 has been announced for PMA , this could very well be my next camera, most of the advantages of the E-30 and cheaper and near the size of the E-420 . [

So did the E30 dynamic range and mid-high ISO noise characteristics improve over what came before ?.I really liked the small but rugged feel of the E520 [and,in actual fact, probably would have been happy enough with the results most of the time] but was,in truth, put off by the negative views on the dynamic range especially.

?
Was there a problem before, nothing that I could see ![]()
Never think I could find the filters of any real use, cropping in camera could be useful at times.
vid here on the filters
I asked about the E-620 while looking at the E-30 today at Focus, and to my surprise the Olympus guy fished one out from the back of the stand so I could have a look at it!
Very like E-520, feels good - not as big as E-30 and has 7 point AF I think compared to E-30's 11 point.
I think i'd be happy with either.. ![]()

Whether you agree with it or not there was/is a perceived, and measurable, difference to the cameras the Olympuses were competing against in these two areas. And in fact on an Olympus forum
I sometimes visit it seems to be accepted that
care needs to be taken with the highlights and that the above ISO400 performance 'could be better'.That is not a dig at Olympus or your camera in particular, simply an observation.

I wonder if that's the same site I would visit once in a while just for the shear entertainment value alone, when working nights and most on EPZ were deep in slumber ![]()
I`m not agreeing or disagreeing with anything but have always found a lot of these people have no real idea at all.

I can only say then that all reviews I read when thinking about getting an E520 highlighted these two points when, quite legitimately, comparing them to equivalent offerings from other companies.Whether you think that is enough reason not to buy is up to the individual.I already stated I had seen photos from Olympus cameras that far exceed anything I produce. That does not alter the fact that there was measureably [almost a full stop if memory serves] less DR at the highlight end between the E520 and the Canon 400D for example. That for me was one of a few factors that influenced my decision to buy a used Nikon D200.
I will await the reviews on the E620 with interest as,sometime down the line,I may buy a used E620 and wide-angle zoom if I feel it would do the biz for me.
