Hehe, just buy a third party, plug it in and dangle it off you nose like some fashion accessory Smile

It's a cracking little camera by the look of things. Wonder when the first full reviews of it are likely to appear. I see some companies are taking pre-orders, can't wait to handle one in a camera shop, find the light-weight and diminutive dimensions very appealing, almost a compact. Could be the perfect carry-all-the-time DSLR.

I`m dreading the release as I have my eye on the E3 but trying to clear a fair bit of my plastic first, the wife`s taken an interest in the 420 now Smile

I blame the little extra`s that will be available for it like camera cases and pink neck straps, hell she`ll be wanting matching shoes and yet another hand bag Smile

I hope they don't pitch it too much at women Sad

Will spend the next hour looking at all the available lenses. I wish they'd managed to include the Image Stabilization in this model. Rest of the specs (plus projected price) are fab though.

I think the whole marketing thing will be trying to atracting those that would not normally bother with a dslr, and think it will have some effect.

IS something I`ve not felt the need for yet, there is an E520 on the way as well. Will probally have the identical same improvements as the 420 but with the added benefit of IS.

I'm not worried about the IS, just would have been a bonus as the reviews of the Olympus SLRs that do feature IS praise it.

It takes Compact Flash, that's good, got lots of them.

Wonder if it's a newer sensor compared to the E410? Specs seem the same, but on dpr they list sensor manufacturer as Matsushita for 410 and Unknown for the 420.

Seems like it's a teeny bit heavier than 410, but smaller. Even though they list identical dimensions?? But on the picture it looks smaller.

Just looking at the sample images from the 410. See the Askeys have taken their traditional stroll along the South Bank, the obligatory Tower Bridge shot's there Smile

Well I shall pretend I didn't see any remarks about cameras being pitched at women! I've got the E500 and in retrospect wish I'd waited a few months before buying because it doesn't have IS. The E3 plus 12-60 would be a perfect but unattainable combination cost wise but for street work, a swivel screen, small size and IS might be just what I need. Not sure 420 the answer, and the E520 probably isn't going to be enough of an upgrade to go for, would make more sense to save for the E3. Perhaps in a year or so the perfect model will appear!

Matsushita, thats panasonic. Its not the same sensor as the 410, even the 510 used a slightly different sensor.

I`ve got a feeling the sensor will be closer to that of the new pany dslr, could be wrong though Smile

    Lol Smile

The 510 0r 520 have moved on a lot since the E500, IS and live view for starters.

Jeez - Where did you come from Lydia! I thought only PM had Olympus, j/k Wink You his wife?

Lydia, I'm not advocating it, just calling it how I see it, sometimes they pitch stuff at women. Why's everyone mentioning swivel screens? I'm missing something on that, is it a Live View thang (my Canons don't have LV)

    Last Modified By Chris_L at 12 Mar 2008 - 10:52 AM

Where did I come from? I'm always here lurking. There's lots of Olympus users about, go and look at the Olympus gallery on the site.
Koen and I want swivel screen because we both do street candids sometimes and it could be useful for instance laying camera on table to take onobstrusive shots. In fact I want the E3 for certain things when live view and screen not important, plus a little one for street work.
Anyone got a few grand going spare?

There are ways of giving yourself a swivel screen and its not that expensive, would even work with digicams.

Simply pick up a portable DVD player with av in, and just tuck it in a shoulder bag, works a treat Smile

Talking of women, my camera bag has to double as a handbag too, there is certainly no room for portable DVD players, there is the kitchen sink to consider LOL.
Leaving before goes totally off topic.....

There`s always the new Pany dslr if the e3 is a little expensive, and all your other e system kit will still be usable.
