Anyone got any views on this beastie?.I have handled the E510 and like the build quality, was happy how it felt in my hands, didn't find the view through viewfinder 'tunnel like',and never had a problem with manual focusing. The size/volume/weight would be great for me as I don't drive and it would pack easier onto my push-bike.I read these stories about highlight clipping and somewhat abrupt transition from 'light but with detail' to 'totally blown'.Does the E520 address these issues to any degree I wonder?.At present I use a second hand 20D+Sigma18-125 lens but its bulky/heavier than my 'ideal'.I really need to either invest in a couple of lenses for this or change systems now when there will be no big financial loss to do so.I do phtography as a hobby and seldom print larger than A4 so 10M pixel is plenty for me.I am also considering Nikon, either the 80D or wait to see what the rumoured 90D has to offer [I have 3 Nikon fit lenses].I'm not in a desperate hurry but would like to have made the decision, and purchase, before going on holiday to Mallaig in September.
Hi John, my views of the Olympus are here: Olympus E-520 test

Quite a favourable review then and may be the 'ideal' camera I am looking for :].Of course,no such camera exists but if image quality is on a par with my 20D that would be good enough for me with the bonus of even the kit lenses being pretty decent as well. The 12-60 lens actually would cover 95% of my needs but it carries a hefty price tag [for me at any rate] and is also quite a bulky lens. The recently announced 9-18 plus the 18-180 is another option I suppose though no reviews yet on the 9-18.Decisions decisions....!!! :]
I own a Kodak P880 and I`m looking to upgrade within the next month or so.
I`m stuck between the Canon 450D and the Olympus E520.I take landscape photos, storm pictures and also wildlife. So therefore I would need a camera with wide angle as well as zoom, which the twin lens Canon has.
I know the Olympus isnt out yet,I would like to know which camera you would opt for.
The 9-18 is due out in september
The 12-60 is a great lens but is expensive and I believe the SWD will only be of benefit to those using the E3.
With the 520 the 14-54 might be a better option, new arround £400, second hand around £300, getting this in place of the 12-60 would save you a few hundred pounds and perhaps leave enough for the wider 9-18 or longer 70-300 in addition.
The 18-180 is ok but a little slow at the long end.

Hi Paul,I found in my 35mm film days 24mm was wide enough for vast majority of stuff I do.A two lens kit ,9-18+18-180 or 12-60 + 40-150,would cover my needs.Ideally a lower priced 12- XX would be best as 24-80mm in [35mm terms] is,again, where most of my images are taken and would mean less lens changing [dust!!!].I think I have pretty much decided to go with the Olympus E520 and will give it a while for prices to settle down then buy.
Thanks for all comments.
John.
Edit: I may even just go with the two lens kit,the price is pretty compelling and by all accounts the quality is likely to be good enough for me.I will just have to make up for the lack of 'wide' in other ways [whatever that may mean/be!!!!]
The twin lens kits are all a steal and worth every penny ![]()
