I have a sort of humming noise emitting from my Olympus OMD. Anyone know what that's all about?

I was worried about that at first but was reaasued that it is normal for this camera.
I find it quite annoying in quiet places, but it is normal. It's part of the IS system, although it still makes the noise when IS is switched off. IThe noise goes when you shoot video.
It's normal, and doesn't bother me in the slightest.
thanks for that as long as it's normal I can live with it. Nice piece of kit by the way.
The camera has acquired a nickname: The Hummingbird.
The sound produced by the camera is caused by the 5-axis IS which is active even when IS is turned off, to ensure that the sensor stays in the center of the image circle.
After a while you don't even notice it

Absolutely. I'd forgotten all about it until this thread!
As Pete says, in video mode the noise goes away - so no worries about it recording on the audio track.
Does that suggest that IS doesn't work in video mode?
Is works very well in video mode Chris.
Cool video . I enjoyed that.
How you getting on with that GH2
Ok thanks Paul. Not had much time to really try it out properly yet, but first impressions are very favourable and I'm looking forward to getting properly acquainted with it over the coming weeks.
There should be plenty of stuff on vimeo regarding the GH2, I think you will enjoy it.
Why does it make a noise in still mode if the IS works without making a noise in video mode?
