A while back I shot this series of images for a local clothing designer and modeling agency. This was Hayley’s second time in front of the camera and I think she did an amazing job.

love the contrast here, lovely colour too, and your model did a great job.

    Thank you NevP.

The panel light quality is very nice, been using them for 25 years now.......T

It's not just the tools though, you have to know how to use them, which you have done here to excellent effect.

Yes you are absolutely correct in your statement NevP. It is experience that gets the job. Between tomorrow and Tuesday I have two really difficult shoots.

Lighting is the easy part. Figuring out what modifiers to bring that offer the most flexibility and minimum weight is the difficult part.

Tomorrow we shoot a model that flew in from Ohio. We may encounter rain in the late afternoon, so I have scheduled her for 4 hours. As we are traveling to 2 locations, I really need to dial down my modifiers to just 2.

Finally, we can only use battery power for the strobes.....another limitation.

Am I worried....nope...that is the thrill of the job and we always get it done just right. Better go, there is a time zone difference between Seattle, WA and Australia!

    Best.....T

Nice work Thorsten - great shots.
Do you use silk panels for ease of adjustment and tweaks to light modification, as opposed to modifiers like s/boxes, which are fitted to the lights?

I like the panels because I can achieve different light quality's very quickly. Less work in post if any...just faster all the way around for me.

Lovely effect, thanks for sharing the details, I find this very interesting. The satin panel was in front of the light as a diffuser, is that right?

Correct, or one can use ripstop nylon or silk. I shoot tethered to the computer so that I can instantly see the results. Adjust lights till you have the desired look....insert memory card....shoot.
