I am heading up to the Peaks in May for a photography day with some friends from work, and to be honest that article an OS map and one person who lived up there are the reference.
Any thoughts on where to get a better list? I know I want to try the Roaches again....
Quote: Is the Geoff chap that writes for them an ex member of this site?
Yes Geoff Simpson did used to use this site a lot but he seems to have left now, his user ID was GeoffP, and his he has an excellent website with lots of locations from around the peak district on it. = Geoff Simpson
I am not too sure if the locations were Geoff's choice or not, I know him personally and he has given me lots of help with his favourite locations and places to photograph in the Peak District and most of those locations are not on the list above.
Quote: A list that lacks imagination.
The list has a lot of the popular and easy places to get to. While they may not be that helpful to people who already know the area they are going to be helpful to visitors to the area and people who do not know the area that well. When I first came to the Peak District I struggled to find my way around anywhere and even when you do get to places that look ok parking is a nightmare unless you go at sunrise, a few years ago I would have loved to have a similar list.
I am sure many people here have used the locations above and still do now, if you look on your website keith you will notice at least 7 of the pictures in your Derbyshire gallery are from these locations so I am sure they dont lack that much imagination.

Chris - I agree with everything you have said. I think it is important that we don't lose sight of the fact that lots of people don't know the area very well, and this list is a great place to start. I wish I had the same sort of thing for other places I have visted, rather than relying on my own research and assumptions of what is best at which time if the day/year etc.
Ian.
