Camera club? there's one in Oban about 45-50mls from you. Don't know much about it, might be worth investigating.

My son's girlfriend is from Mallaig. I'll ask her if she knows of anything and I'll get back to you.

Do you have a helicopter? I did Mallaig to Oban just the other day and it was nearly 90 miles. WinkWink

You're lucky to live in such a beautiful area. If there are no clubs or courses locally, there is so much you can learn on here and other sites and also tutorials on youtube. Good luck.

Yes, we've spent some very happy holidays up on the west coast in Applecross, before I really got into photography. I hope to come back again sometime for a holiday with my camera.

I've just spoken to my son's girlfriend who doesn't know of any courses or clubs locally but suggested you get in touch with the art teacher at the high school who may be able to give you some advice.

There's a few things in Fort William like http://aboutlochaber.com/whatson/2011/09/13/autumn-photography-course_3008

There used to be a Lochaber camera club there, but its defunct now. But ask around at the library, etc. They may be able to put you in touch with former members

Keith Hart (Photo4x4) is based up around your way I think... look him up on the search box, top right of the screen...

Try the Open University digital photography course which starts again in October. It costs £205 but, here in Scotland, as long as your income is not excessive (under £22,000 I believe) you will get a £200 grant towards it, leaving a net cost of £5. The fee includes a copy of Photoshop Elements which is yours to keep after the course, so it is a Win-Win situation.

I've just had a look at the details of the course and noticed that it says' "This course is expected to start for the last time in October 2012".

    Don't leave it too long.

In OU speak that could mean the current course design and they are planning a redesigned course to run afterwards.

I'm not sure they are. I did the original course a couple of years ago and it was fun and interesting, but when I enquired if they were going to produce an advanced course I was told that they weren't and that the basic course would not be offered after 2012. I met lots of nice people doing the OU course and they run a good forum and give you useful projects to do. I'd say go for it before it's too late.
