I never cease to become more amazed by the sheer .... cleverness of photoshop. A recent message exchange about just that got me wondering.

Could there be, anywhere, anyone who truly does know everything that photoshop can do?

so many different ways to achieve so many different things and still functions that I never use, filters with so many variations .... really is a very clever little piece of kit.

(still miss a dark room though .... sometimes!) Smile

Do anyone NEED to know everything that PS can do?

I have used MS Word day in, day out for nearly 10 years, yet, as 99% of our work is straight transcription I probably know less than 10% of what Word can actually do.

I dont know but I would guess that you would need to know a lot to be adobe certified.

Used it almost every single day for the past 5 years. I certainly don't.

I know it's a silly question - just a mild musing at the end of the day!

Good to know that I'm not alone in feeling that I've barely wet my feet though!

Unless you're a Photoshop guru like Martin Evening, Scott Kelby or someone like that, I doubt you well ever exhaust the possibilities that Photoshop has to offer and each new version gets even more bells and whistles.

It's certainly fun to have a play and learn something new. There's also more than one way of achieving an end, you learn constantly. That's where a site like this with so many Photoshop users comes in handy.

I joined NAPP for a year, but to be brutally honest, they aren't really interested in overseas members as few of the special offers are available outside the US/Canada. I refused to renew for that reason, though the NAPP forums are very good indeed.

Maybe someone should start a thread for people to post some Photoshop tips, though do state what version you are using. If there's a workaround in Photoshop Elements for those who are using that, so much the better.

    Great idea.

Photoshop is a pro tool aimed at a number of different markets .. because of this there's a lot built into it, however a vast amount of it works in the same way. Once you have an understanding of the process you have a better understanding of the overall program. I would expect that many of you know far more than you may imagine you do !!

That said photoshop is a complex tool and one I have been using as both a photographer and non photographer since year dot. We subscribe to a couple of photoshop mags and used to attended courses etc but even then with the new developments they make there's always something new to learn.

Adobe are simply very, very good at what they do. I for one applaud them for it. CS3 has no real competition and the beta tools are alredy proving very, very useful!

Not in favour of this petition then Dan? Smile

To be honest it makes no difference to me either way. We use Photoshop in a professional capacity and if it were three times the price it would still be worthwhile us investing in it .. there is a version for home users at a sensible price already. it's called elements Smile

I'm old enough to remember version 1 and we ran scanned files through it. Scanned images were rare in '90 and we would wait eight days for images to come back from Birmingham.

It's difficult to imagine how it revolutionised the industry despite the fact that the machinary to run it ran into several thousand pounds, but we'd been sold on the hype of Star Wars and a couple of US agencies had racked up a couple of very impressive 96 sheet boards using a Beta version.

If anyone fancies using version 1 download it here.

Of course true designers still use Superpaint

Perhaps it's just a sponsor thing, like with EPZ's ?
