Photoshop 8bit or 16bit

Hi everyone,
without anyone giving me the jargon I have already read on the internet can anyone just simply tell me in terms on printing say canvas does 16bit make a big difference over 8bit?

The main advantage of 16 bits is to use it in the editing phase. Once you have completed editing there is probably little to gain by using 16 bits for printing.
