Got the above bundled with my 300d but where does it sit in the photoshop range? Is it an good?
And (I know, shouldn't start with an "and")when peopla say they are using photoshop, what in reality are most using - the full on photoshop at 150+ is a bit steep.
Thanks
Ian
It's a version of Photoshop that includes most, if not all, of the stuff that digital photographers need - without all the stuff that is intended for graphic artists and pre-press production.
Haven't used it myself but it gets good writeups.

More like 500 for PS7 if it's not an upgrade.
Elements should serve you well (it's basically a cut-down version of PS). The most used functions of PS are available in elements, it is possible that you would never use the functions that are missing. PS is a very large program, it takes months of use to learn how to utilise 20% of its features (if not longer).
Agree (says he who use the full CS monty!). Elements does lack the crucial Curves tool though. I believe there are upgrade paths from Elements to CS, so Elements will be an ideal starting option. If it does all you ever need then you're sorted. If not, then ...............
Good news if you get the Hidden Powers book, (it cost me @ 20) you get a CD that adds things like curves and colour seperations and guides. Have a look at its web site http://hiddenelements.com
Curves let you play with how the light goes from black to full brightness, so you can alter the contrast in a given light range. It is a bit of an advance tool, but good for bringing detail out of shade without impacting the bright bits for example.
I recently bought Elements 3 for the fairly good RAW processing ability. There is little I do that Elements 3 can't cope with and my old version of PS rarely sees the light of day. Elements 3 is far better than Elements 2. Of course, if you can afford it and justify it, CS is probably the best you can get.
You probably got Elements 2.0 with your camera. Try it out. If you like it, you'll LOVE 3.0. It will do everything you need it to.
As for Curves, 3.0 has a simple version- the Highlights/Shadows option which basiclly does the same thing and is much easier to get a handle on. However, if you feel that you're "missing out" and "just gotta have" Curves and Masks, Paul Shipley has created them for Elements and can be downloaded for free:

Yes, they work as advertised, but be sure you follow the installation instructions to the letter. I've never needed them yet, but I got 'em cause everyone says I should have 'em.
Go figure.
Quote: I clicked on one of the adverts on the left, and it took me to ebay. There's Elements 3, latest version, for a "buy it now" price of 6.60! Obviously genuine. Wouldn't think 2.0 would fetch much. Got an unopened copy here myself, that came with the camera.
I have no idea how he can sell it at that price without it been a copy but a check of feedback shows no complaint....
unbelievable!!!
Elements 3.0 for buy it now 6.60
personally i think its a copied cd with and identical cd key but none of the buyers noticed.....

Ed, I, and Chris I think, were being facetious!
it's obviously a copy. If you read it all, there are no instructions, no packaging etc. Amazon have it on sale for 63. I'm never quite sure how ebay square it, there are loads of copies for sale there, can never see why the police do not clamp down on it. Must be a legal loophole there somewhere. I'm sure if you were to sell it in a car boot sale, you could be prosecuted.
