I've got both Paint Shop Pro v8 and Photoshop Elements 4.0, but I'm increasingly finding that Photoshop Elements is nowhere near as good as PSP. So much seems to be missing that I now think I just don't know how to use Elements.
For you Elements users, am I right in thinking that you can't do the following in Elements 4.0?
1. Limited support for editing 16 bit files (cannot duplicate layers for example).
2. Cannot create macros/scripts to automate common tasks.
3. No curves adjustment.
I must be missing something because PSP seems to be a lot more powerful than PS Elements.
I can do all of the above in PSP (I can edit 16-bit files, but have to save them to 8 bit which I can accept).
Know that (2) and (3) are correct. They are 3rd party plug-ins that cover some of these omissions but they have been blocked in PSE4. Unfortunatley we all seem forced to pay a premium for what some view as the industry leader. Personally i feel that this is Adobe Achellies heel. Mike
I'm not suprised that you find PSP to be more powerful becuase it has been for a long time a complimentary programme to PS and Elements is a stripped down version for starters.
I'm of course biased becuase I started seriously with PSP7 after messing with Adobe Photo Deluxe and and MGI .... long banished from my machine and only MSN's Paint remains.
Really I'm quite pleased that I couldn't afford PS back then, fortunately Elements hadn't come on the market.
Personally I put adjustment layers above curves in usefulness and use them on just about every shot ... I run my cameras at low settings accepting that editing is part of the process, not just to rescue stuff ![]()
