In another forum question, (click here to read it), a member asked for a recommendation for a Photoshop tutorial book. Im sure this question has been asked many times before but remember we all have to start somewhere.

Thinking about the question last night, I realized that after using various versions of PS for a while now, I find more and more that I do 95%+ of my PS work with PS LE.

To explain further, I am one of those photographers who will open a file, adjust levels of various areas, maybe use the crop and unsharp mask tools occasionally and maybe even less, a quick use of the clone tool before putting a thin line around the print to hold it together where necessary.

I am one of those photographers I suppose, that likes to get as much right in camera as possible. Not that I object to other people in general using every tool and filter on each picture but its just the way I prefer to work.

PS LE loads quickly and has less menu items to plough through to find what I want, are just two of its main credentials. Thinking about it, maybe the main reason people find full versions of PS so overwhelming for such a long time, is because it can do too much of what most of us, if were honest, will never use.

Would anyone else like to comment on this?

Well my view is that I do not need the full version of Photoshop for photographs. I use Elements, which I would recommend over LE. The reason why are, the undo history, and the ability to work in 16 bit colour depth. I then use the Hidden Power tools to add features like curves and colour seperations (I use those for B/W work).
