I have never used photoshop before and would love to be able to get to grips with it so that I can manipulate my digital photo's. Could somebody please recommend a tutorial for a total beginner that would quickly teach me the basics. Thank you. James Timmis

There are so many areas that are basic that one tutorial wouldn't cover them all. Have a look in our techniques section and work through a few of the ones listed under our beginners digital section.

    Hi There

    Try this http://members.aol.com/crhfoto/knowhowlist.htm
There is a run down of more or less all the functions in photoshop, and there is more being added.

    Hope this helps

Also try Digital Photo magazine. It comes with some step by step video tutorials, that are excellent.

I aggree with Lucybear. Digital Photo magazine is a great way to learn Photoshop and can be followed by the absolute beginner. Each CD has about 60 minutes of tutorial with it.
    Enjoy learning

If anyone would like back issues of Digital Photography/Practical Photography without the CD's as I am sure I would not be allowed to copy them, I have about two years supply.

If you write to the nice people at Digital Photo magazine they might send you some of the CD's.for free. They sent them all to my camera club when we asked. Also try Photoshop 7 for photographers by Martin Evening, it's a very informative book...there's a review in ephoto......tony

'...for Photographers' is a very good book, but I would not recommend it for a total photoshop novice - even the manual is easier going! I believe the 100% Photoshop Bible is a better book for beginners and there are others(although '...for Photographers' deserves to be a second purchase on anyone's shelf).

Thank you all for you recommendations. I will be contacting Digital Photo magazine to see if I can get hold of the CD tutorials. Do you know if they have a website or an email address I can write to, I am currently on holiday in New Zealand so it will be difficult for me to pick up the magazine. thanks. James

Dig photo is part of the EMAP group. I don't know why but they stopped their individual mags from having their own web sites, probably cost.
However here are some email addresses:-
    dp@emap.com or www.emapmagazines.co.uk/photography.shtml back issues emap@mercury-international.com
or try the editor will cheung at will.cheung@emap.com
    Happy hunting

There are some very good books available at your local library..Can't remember the name immediately but one I read recently even had a CDROM in the flyleaf as part of the book.
Try typing Photoshop into the library computer search engine.
