Download Preview Extractor - it has a quick and easy shutter count facility built in.

Doesn't the D80 have an actuations item on the menu system that will tell you how many times the shutter has been fired?

This is the way I do it.

If you are using Photoshop, load up your last image .
Under the file menu go to file info.
Select the advanced option from the list.
In the window that opens go to item labelled http:/ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/aux/. Click on the little + sign.
This will open a list of three items the last of which is the Image number.
