Although that would give the option to sue them for wrongful arrest.

take it to your local papers / radio stations they are often lacking proper news time of the year and may run with the story and you could get an offcial apology printed etc even more fun , also it sets the line which the police shouldnt cross in ligitimate police work

Not sure about that, local papers seem to have similar attitudes to the police, and may turn the thing back on the tog.

dont know , the police down here had a real hammering two weeks ago, the paper published over 12 officers that had criminal offences including serious assult and GBH etc in the last 12 monthes, so it depends on the editors agenda

Some good advise I read (could even have been on here!!). If you feel you are within you rights politly ask the officer to confirm the numbers of the offences you are breaching. They normally will have to radio in for that and then should be informed you are within your rights.

    cheers

    Phil,

Sorry to hear you were treated this way. I was at the front of the crowd on Cornhill on Sunday too. I was taking photos with a Canon 70-200mm F4 IS and 350D (So a reasonable sized lens to get noticed!) and didn't have any problems at all, in fact I had a policeman standing about four feet away from me.

I didn't take a tripod due to the crowds involved because I thought the police might object. Please let me know how you get on with your complaint, I'd be very interested to hear what Suffolk Police have to say.

    Good Luck!!
    Anthony

This is the sort of issue I've been looking to tackle in my images of late, sad and depressing tale

It sounds like one who does not know the law, I am a serving police officer and also carry a camera in my own time, it does annoy me when I hear stories like this as we all get tarred with the same brush.
Even if there was a problem with a tripod in the way etc etc all it takes is a common sense approach and by speaking to people normally.
I have been stopped by officers when I have been off duty, while I have been driving and I find it unreal how some of them come across, basically making it up as they go along, it's good to see them scuttle off when they realise they are speaking to someone who does know they are talking crap.

I was chatting with some mates at work about a youtube clip(link was posted on EPZ) where some officers were trying to stop a bloke using his video camera who was filming them, they are basically a pair of idiots who are seen to make it up as they go along... speaking with a mate who knows who they are he tells me they have had it ripped out of them constantly since.
