I wanted to do a night shoot using a light source.
I own home studio lights from elemental but they are only for indoor use. Does anyone know where I can buy a single portable light?
I want it to be able to light up an area like this:

Edit// Sorry the title is mean to say Portable Lighting
Have you a speedlite 430/580, if so just get a radio trigger.
As for a reflector/brolly or softbox it need not cost a lot and there just so cheap and simple to make yourself with a little imagination.
I put together some simple conversion kits that will transform any umbrella from golfing size to fishing umbrella size in just a few minutes, these kits switch from a simple reflector to a flash brolly or softbox and there all reversible gold/silver.
The smallest only cost me about £10 to make, including a flash bracket, and they work well.

Depending on your budget, have a look at Quantum, they do really a really nice system. They have some of the adaptability of a studio kit, reasonably powerful (more so than a speedlight but less so than a studio light) but are lightweight, and also offer radio TTL if you need that sort of thing.
Another vote for Quantum Q-flash. I've been using their flashes for years, very reliable in use, with a lovely quality of light. The auto flash is very accurate too.
Takes all the same accessories as lumedynes. so a great range of softboxes and other modifiers are available.
£70.00 ........right!
Thats Quantums out of the question!
You may be able to find something like a used Metz CL3 or 4 for around that price. All you would need then, would be a long sync lead (around £10)
And instead of a stand to put it on, bring someone with you to hold it.
Just be careful when using older flash units, the voltages can be quite high and cause damage to your camera.
That sort of money will not get you much at all, even something like this is not really that cheap.
Quote: Will the 430 work as continuous lighting?
Continuous??? its a flash!
If you need a continuous battery powered light, try one of those million candle power torches. Pick them up cheap as chips. some even have a thread in the handle, that you could screw onto a stand.

What so i can't just switch it on, It has to be triggered?
If so I didn't know that, and sound like an idiot hahha.
Hi Pixy - you might want a couple of flashguns - I have a couple of cheap Mirandas from ebay at less than £20 each plus a cheapie radio trigger and 2 receivers also from ebay for around £15 - £20. Email Lee Filters for their sample gels (free) and you can tape them to your flash to vary the colours/to compensate for available light. As this only leaves you with around £10, you could get two mates to act as VALs (Voice Activated Lightstands) to hold the flashes for you while you shoot. When you get a bit more budget, you could use two lightstands from your studio kit and buy cheapie hotshoe adapters (with a hole for sticking your brollies through from your studio kit) for around £10 - 15 each (fleabay again). There are also cheapie diffusers/softboxes for flash guns on the aforementioned site if you don't want to lug your brollies around. Hope this helps. Ooh, have you been to look at the Strobist.com website? All sorts of cheap and home made suggestions for lighting on location abound there. It's a veritable treasure trove of info.
p.s. got an email from Endsleigh this morning re student insurance - apparently it starts at £16 which is within your budget from your earlier post. They are recommended by the NUS.
