Either the Nikon AFD 85mm f/1.8 or the newer (and more expensive Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.8G) or if money is no object then the Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4G
I use the AFD version and it is a superb, very compact lens, the autofocus whilst not as speedy as the AFS version is plenty fast enough. The bokeh at f4 is very nice indeed, take a look at the review on Photozone
Yup! If your friend was using a full frame Nikon body, I would probably suggest the 85mm option, As its a pretty standard reply to your question......
However, Taking the crop factor into account a decent 60mm lens would be better suited to the DX body, Lets say the superb 60mm Nikon micro lens options.
That said your friend could easily get away with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8, That crop factors to 75mm, Great results at a fraction of the cost of anything else on the market, Just make sure its the newer 50mm option with built in AF motor, Or its manual focus only, If they have deeper pockets, Then the latest 50mm f/1.4 option is a good way to go.
Just my " Take " on things mind.....
The 50mm f1.8 Nikon lens is both excellent and cheap. It's a good portrait length for APSC sensors so I'd suggest that the OP gets one.
Thanks Fdor the replies will pass the info On.....Thanks David
ill also back up the 1.8 50mm nikon lens, i have one, i love it.
save some money and get the 50mm 1.8D
it gives you a great 75mm equiv for portraits. 85mm would give an effective 130mm which is too long
Another vote for the 50mm 1.8, stunning value for money and super sharp, I use mine on a D7000 for all of my portrait work.
