In the sales snatched up an sd14 with kit lens for 299 after cashback. I am enjoying the camera so far but I am finding the aperture of 5.6 at the larger end to be a little limiting for portraits. So next investment will be a prime for portraits. I am either completely missing a sigma dedicated 50 or is quite rare.
I bought the body as it was an inexpensive way to start but do not want to spend too much money collecting one lens system only to find later choices limiting.
Have heard whispers that canon lenses can be fitted to the sd14...any direction on where to find this information. If it was possible then i would conisder using canon lenses on this body to give greater choice of a new body in a few years?
so reccomendations anyone or should it be a 50mm 1.8 no brainer?
Time and patience appreciated, Lewis
Have a look in the Sigma SLR forum on DPR. I saw a thread about it there recently [but didn't read it] and there have been others in the past. The 'Search' facility there now works well.
Hi.
Any chance you could keep me posted on your new sd14. I am thinking about buying one, but to hear a user review first would be most helpful.
Steve.
The only short primes Sigma do are Macro lenses. These are fine for portraits, but do carry a higher cost than standard primes.
The major weakness of the Sigma bodies is that you have a limited range of lenses to chose from as there are no 3rd party lenses available (Canon lenses can't be used).
For portraits the 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG might be worth considering as it has a nice focal length range and is currently going for a knocked down price in the ePz shop.
