I just know I'm going to end up feeling like a pranny for asking this but... I've noticed that that images posted in portrait are noticeably larger at the longest edge on the screen than those posted in landscape, although in both orientations the image is uploaded is 600 pixels.

Am I doing something wrong when I load my images in a landscape format or does the site do some automatic resizing that happens to favour portrait images.

Hi Stuart, are you using a wide screen monitor. Not sure of the technicalities of it all but on a wide screen the side to side dimentions do look wider. If you compare the images on a normal screen they look completely different.

    Phil
    thanks,

I'm now going to dig myself in a bit deeper here. The screen I'm viewing isn't widescreen. To explain a bit further. From where I'm viewing, if you posted the same image twice, the first in portrait and another version flipped to landscape, the portrait version appears to be proportionally larger.

If it was the monitor then I would expect square images to be pulled as well. but this doesn't appear to be the case. Equally it be evident on all images on my pc but this is not the case either. So I'm still a little bit unsure whether I'm uploading images in the most effective manner, or whether its old age and bad eyesight. (most probably a combination of all three)

if you can draw a perfect square in Photoshop or something (you can do that with the select tool or crop tool maybe) and it looks rectangular, then your monitor's/video card's set up incorrectly.

Try changing the resolution or using the monitors's contols to get that square looking square Smile
