Hi guys. Just discovered that Jessops have the lowest price I can find for the Canon 70 - 200mm f2.8 IS L Lens. Shock horror! Surely this can't be correct. Listed at 1299.00. Anyone know of a cheaper deal.

    ..but is it in stock?
Two weeks ago it was £1198 at warehouse express - it's now £1549 from them.

round christmas they had quite a bit at the cheapest price (least according to Camera Price Buster. Now though I would certainly phone to make sure they are in stock (phone the shop if its there since the shops lists for stock appear to not be correctly listed at the head offices - and thus on the net as well).

I have bought from jessops before and had prices that were very competative - though it helps if you buy lots and then have a chat with the manager Smile

I was shocked too at Jessops 'low' price but bought one from the Sheffield Meadowhall branch for £1290 and also a 17 - 40 F4 L for £529 yesterday. It was their last 70-200 but they have one 17 - 40 left.

According to the Canon UK site, the SRP for the lens is £2020, so it must have perfect vision. Wink

actually a very good time to buy houses if you can afford it, the prices are tumbling as people get afraid, the rich always buy well in a freefall market, then profit hugely in a rising market

never happen mate if it did the rich would just buy twice as many houses, look at the property auction in london, people are buying as many houses as they can to rent out, in cornwall 700- 800 pounds a month is bottom end of house rental prices, 1000 -1200 not un common

Not a good time to buy any item that has been deliberately overpriced to cover so called " Unfavourable Exchange " rate's...!

Basically the manafacturers/wholesalers are quite happy when milking " Treasure Island " ( Thier name for the UK not mine ) when the rates are in thier favour, But guess who will pay, Yeah! The great British muggin's as usual......Sad

Personally unless you are absolutely desperate, I'd wait, If sales fall there just might be an incentive to drop prices....!

What am I saying....lol...Seems some of my older lens are now worth more second hand ( certainly on " Fleabay " ), Than I paid for them new.....Smile

Try 123fstop on eBay, he is currently selling the Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS for £899.97. I bought mine from him with no problems.

Rises are partly due to currency fluctuation and partly due to just price rises. The Yen to £ is/was doubled in value.

The Japanese manufacturers across the board are still going to cut back on production as the buyers are not buying. Short stock will raise prices again. Shops will not be able to cut their margins to stop the rises.

Expect upwards of 25% is what I have been told.
I looked at Mifsud just now and they are asking £100 more than Jessops for a 40D and about £700 more for the 1DMkIII. Don't know how Mifsuds were pricing before xmas though.

Jessops in Taunton have a 70-200 F2.8 IS in stock for £1,299. Saw it last night so be quick if you live nearby and want one!
