Is anyone out there having problems with Mozilla's Thunderbird email thing?

It's been taking more and more time to load over the last few days and now it's taking forever.

Then, when it finally has loaded, it's asking me for my password. The one that it already knows.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing it but it's made no difference.

    Any ideas . . . ?

Hi, Have not noticed any problems, using version 24.2.0, I assume because you have re-installed you have the same.

Nope, I don't see any issues either. It is likely more to do with the email service provider than the software.

I'm using Gmail, via Thunderbird, which is what's not working properly.

    Gmail, by itself, is fine.

There's an obvious answer, of course but I like Thunderbird.

Hi Mike, version 254.2.0, as you say.

Thing is, I've just switched the computers on and it's lighting up straight away. It hasn't done that for three days.

    Jestertheclown

And now it's slowed down again.

If your inbox has loads of stuff in it, try deleting some stuff.
    Also try File>Empty Trash & File>Compact folders

Failing that start TB in safe mode to see if it is a plug in causing the problem.

    Jestertheclown

    Well!
    Thanks Chris.
I'm not sure what happened there but it's worked.
The various folders, inbox, trash etc. are always empty. I get rid of all my emails once I've finished with them. The ones that I want to keep are stored selectively in named folders and even these are emptied regularly.
Anyway, upon your advice, I started Thunderbird in safe mode, removing (both of) the add-ons and resetting the toolbars; not that I can recall altering them.
It started in a flash. Much more quickly than it ever does.
I then reinstalled the add-ons, one at a time, restarting it normally after each one and it's still lighting up more quickly than ever.
In theory, I haven't changed anything, except perhaps the toolbars but something's kickstarted it.
    Thanks again,
    Bren.

I haven't run Thunderbird for some time but I seem to remember that the folders need to be compacted regularly even if things have been deleted.
If you've done that and it has a new lease of life you can bet your bottom dollar that's what did it.

    Update to the above:
One of the add-ons, the "Lightning" calendar, can't be installed as "Thunderbird can't read the files," presumably meaning that, for some reason, although it's been working for years, it's not going to now.
Could be that that was the problem.
