I watched a couple of shows done with this last night and was mightily impressed, so I downloaded the trial version.
But..
..I can't get the damn thing to run properly. Everytime I try to open the folder containing the pics I want to add it crashes. Anyone else had a problem with it?
I'm running Windows XP Media Centre on an Intel Core 2 Duo system.
And where did my ? go in the title????
Kris - I'm using without problem on my old AMD XP-A 1900 pc with win XP and 1.5 gig RAM so I'm suprised you are running into problems.
When you try to open the images how are you accessing them?
I've just checked with mine (V3) and working from the Folder view my images drag into the frame bar at the base of the screen without problem

I've used ProShow Gold a number of time and it gives excellent results. I have experienced a few crashes and now always save regularly.
I've mainly done fairly simple shows and it works OK. Whilst you can save individual "shows" I haven't found a way to save a project, which is rather annoying. One problem I've encountered is when the pics were on a network drive and then it ran extremely slow, keep the files local & it seems OK. My PC is nearly 4 years old and seems perfectly usuable for this app.
Suggest you have a look at the forums on Proshows Web site which I found useful when I first started using it.
Good luck.....
Phil

Cheers for the ? Pete. ![]()
Brian - I'm working from the folder view but it gets halfway through generating the thumbnails for dragging, then gives me the proshow.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I'll go check the forums Phil.
Cheers all.

It's reliable then... (??)
,-)
Kris, a thought struck (a rare event these days) I seem to remember having problems when I first started using Proshow. These related to opening a folder with mixed format images. I normally work with just .TIFF or .JPG in a file I'm planning to create a show from. From memory the real problem came when I had a mix of RAW files with converted files.
(I just had to try it with a .cr2 file - sure enough it crashes with that message you have)
may be your problem?
Brian

Could be Brian.
I did manage to open a folder containing some images I wanted to use, the problem occured when I tried to add some from, and therefore open, another folder. Maybe transfering all the images I want to use to one folder before I start may do the trick?
Yes, use it, and yes had it crash. I suspect Bri may be on to something. However, it happened to me when I also wanted to navigat to a different folder of images. I had an email from their support, suggesting something was running in the background that ws responsible and suggested I googled all the processes running. Hmmnn.
Well, I found having all the images ready to use, in a folder that opens up when ProShow starts was a reasonable workaround. I actually gather it's not an uncommon problem.
ProShow Gold 3.0 is just out, but I ain't upgraded yet.

Well I tried the above and uninstalled and reinstalled it just to get a clean go at it.
It didn't work.
The version I tried was 3. I also checked the forums and a lot of people have to shut everything else down to use it.
I've now uninstalled it and deleted the download too. If it's that unstable, piss poor programming if you ask me, then it's not worth the aggro and they ain't having my cash.
I'll just have to find something else.
So there.
Hi don't know if you've already found this out but with the trial version you Get trial right across every frame of the slide show.
When i finally bought mine i redid the slide show again but was later told it gets removed once you've paid.
Id saved mine to disc by then with the trial all over it.
its a great package and id recommend it to anyone.

Hi,
I have just created a 45 minute slideshow complete with music and 221 pictures; no problems. Using Athlon 64 3200+ processor with 1gb ram, windows XP. Only use jpgs and I recall one tutorial saying you don't need to use images any bigger than 800 x 600 pixels. So try downsizing your slideshow images into one folder and just access that one or increase memory. Pro show also do a good on line help and are normally quick to reply if you cannot solve your issues.
Cheers Bob

My problem with PSG was when I wanted some quick title inserts to last around one second and the programme simply wouldn't follow my instructions and gave me a five second title ... Urrgh!
Otherwise I found it fairly easy to use once one got the hang of it. Yet to master dropping in a voice-over to match picture ... the instructions are not very illuminating on this aspect.
I'm running XP with 512DDS RAM and have had no crashes so far.
Well I've just had a long and detailed reply, giving various options to try, from Photodex customer support, so I may do them the justice of giving it another crack.
