I decided to buy Proshow Gold to do some slide shows of our holiday pics, as it has been recommended by so many people on here.

I am using a machine which happily runs C1, PS CS2 and Photomatix Pro simultaneously, without having to stop anything else like Outlook or FF. Despite this, the only way I can get Proshow to run without hanging is to close down everything non-essential, including things like my Apache and SQL servers, Acronis scheduler and C1 media monitor. Even with all that shut down, Proshow hung when the screen save kicked in. Sad

On top of that, I have had to turn off the menu thumbnails as, when I have multiple shows to create, the software selects totally different thumbs to those I have told it to use.

I finally managed to burn a disk and went to try it in the DVD player. The first show on the disk works fine, but trying to play the second one just causes the DVD player to stop. The same happens when I try to play the disk in a computer.

I have emailed Photodex and am waiting for their response, but I wondered, as there are so many people using it, have any others had this kind of problem? If so is there a workaround?

I am using the latest version (3.1 2018) on XP, sp2 and fully updated.

I posted about Proshow Gold a while back; it wouldn't run on my machine either so I binned it. Luckily I'd tried the freebie demo first...

Running 3.0.1904 on XP SP2, generally runs fine tho it does have its quirks.

I had it hang up in the past and difficulties in saving to disk but just done a show this week and no problems at all. I know it doesn't help but have you had a look at pictures to exe which is another popular choice just try the free version first.

One advantage with pro show is you can use their site to save your show to and just send people the link like this

Thanks for the link to the enthusiasts forum, maybe they will be able to help me.

Having just paid for this I don't want to solve my problems by using another software thanks. Smile

Not sure about saving my show to their website, the 2 combined run to about 3gb so it would take an age to upload.

you use pro show gold which converts it to a smaller file and uploads to the site.

What size images are you using as i normally reduce the file size to 250K which is adequate for a slide show (sorry you probably already know that) but unless it's a very long slide show i would have thought 100mb should be normal. Not at home so can't check the size of mine.

I was using the original size images Phil, just converted to jpg. Do you think that could be part of the problem?

I use LR to export to screen resolution all the images first then use those - makes the memory overhead and the rendering performance much more acceptable.

Hey Ian, I have ProShowGold. Crap isn't it ?

    LOL

When I use it (which is not often) I shut EVERYTHING else down, including virus scanner, firewall, messenger, etc. and disable my screen saver. Even then sometimes it stalls writing the DVD and sometimes the DVD, when playing, gets all blocky and stops.

    Should've warned you. Sorry. Sad

I thought you must have been when the you said you have a file size of 3GB. if you find it then runs ok try buying a training tutorial from www.davrodigital.co.uk

excellent tutorials and far quicker to learn the tricks such as reducing file size. he has a couple of freeview ones so you can get an idea of his style.

My mum bought one to learn PS elements and now she gives me tips on how to do stuff.

P.S i only ever buy software that i can try before i buy. the number of programs that conflict with each other on my system. look forward to seeing you first attempt.

Encore DVD 2, Way to go, FAB program no hang ups.....Studio quality results every time.

OK the learning curve is a little steep, But well worth the effort.

    Smile

Have a look here for a lot of help.

A brilliant program compared to some I've used.

I use ProShow and find it a great way to give customers that little extra. It's easy to use and turns out very professional slide shows.

When using it I only run Proshow on its own as I have found it does hang up occasionally, but saying that there is a lot of processing going on so its no surprise that it hangs. This would also happen when running other programs that use a lot of processing power.

    A great program!

Phil what pixel sizes do you find works best at 250k?

I've registered at proshow enthusiasts, so hopefully one of them will be able to sort out the issues.

With Steve and Collywobbles here...apart from occasional hangs like other programs, using ProShow Producer is great, and use it as an Event or portrait sale or sales tool, a marketing tool, TV proofing tool, web display tool...fantastic. Run LRoom at the same time np.

Had idiotsyncrasies, but so do most programs; it's a little clunky but it works for me.

Can't say have had the probs (touch wood) other people have had, and can't agree with Bri ..it is anything but crap, maybe your system just doesn't like it or you had a bad experience with it?

    Cheers
    Richard
