Hi everyone, I have the d3100 with both kit lenses plus the sigma 150-500. I realise everyone says invest in glass but I have been looking at the d5200 as a step up. Basically my sons after a camera and so thought kill two birds with one stone here he can have my d3100 lol). Anyway is it much of an improvement over the d3100?. I like to take wildlife, birds etc mainly, originally i was looking at maybe a 300mm lens roundabout f2.8 but if he wants a camera then i thought he could have mine and i can get a new one. Any thoughts please

Higher models allow more creative control but need a certain amount of setting up to give their best. The D3100 does a very good job straight out of the box and the creative controls have been hidden in the menus so that punters won't meddle with them.

You'll learn a lot more about photography when you use a D5200!
