Quick release platform?

26 Dec 2009 10:35AM
Hi all

I bought this ball head:

and realised afterwards that it doesn't have a quick release platform. Already got it scratched so I can't send it back... so is there an optional quick release platform I can buy from somewhere that I can use? I've tried a search but can't find anything :-(

Thanks for your help

One of these might do the trick. I use one on my Manfrotto monopod. Will screw straight on to the top of your new 486 - albeit, making the whole thing, perhaps, a little tall...??

This is the search criteria I used btw Jon.... HiH's...

Mmmm... thanks but it looks a bit tall and heavy :-(
Is there something a bit more portable that would do the job?

Thanks for replying so soon Smile

That's the puppy! I wasn't aware they produced that as an accessory - useful to know Ray.

Will that definitely work on my head then?

To my mind, yes. Having checked my own 488RC2, it appears to be the same as this - just make sure you have the 1/4" to 3/8" screw adaptor fitted on your 486 platform as the bottom of the QR adaptor requires a 3/8" fitting (See the Specifications tab - attachment (bottom) 3/8" female thread )

But to be absolutely sure - use the on-line chat facility after the holiday (Tuesday..??) and have the tech confirm it. The other way of course is to email Manfrotto (Bogen) and have them confirm it

Yes this is the same as your head but with the release plate fitted.

When browsing W.E site for bits and bobs, think outside of the box Smile
