    ok....

...preferably owners of these 2 only please but I acknowledge that the more advanced users will have looked at both and have an opinion also.

So...just a simple 'one or the other' and a quick line on why if you would Smile

Oh and please.. don't anyone come in with a 'it depends on what you want...' answer. I know full well it does but that's not what I want out of this. If you can't give a straight answer as per the above rules then go read another post Wink

    Thanks, Mark.

My vote: Konica Minolta Dynax 5D
My reason: Because you'd be buying an excellent, well-built camera with proven and highly effective metering and focussing systems, and of course the acclaimed Anti-Shake built in to the camera body. Plenty of lenses to choose from, both Minolta and third-party, so no worries on that front.

350D, I love mine, it was my first DSLR and I got the hang of it very quickly!
PS. Don't worry about the size issue, its only small in comparison to those Nikon bricks!

Cheers Jim...the size of the 350D does seem to be a sticking point (I can't spell concenscious Wink..) I've handled a D50 and must admit, size... good...feeling? a bit lightweight and cheap to be honest (I do hope I've not opened up this thread to invasion by the Nikon army..)

You know the saying, if anyone can canon can. Used Canon for many years and no problems at all. My only point is that the low end DSLR cameras a getting very small and to me do not hold and feel like a proper camera.
It might help to choose by knowing what the main purpose for the camera is to be used as.
Personaly i love the feel and handling of my 10D and thats why i wont change it, its got great build quality and great handling.

That's not quite sticking within the rules Mike but thanks Wink

edit: although having said that your comments about the size are very valid re: the 350D..thanks Smile

I had exactly the same quandary myself a couple of weeks ago and didn't make my choice untill I was in the shop with my hands on both Smile

I much preferred the 'feel' on the minolta, very sturdy if slightly heavier. I thought I wouldn't like the angular shape but when I held it.. well it felt right and although I cannot compare any other quality I am very happy with my purchase Smile

Also the AS gave it an edge..

Thanks Jane, that is certainly something that I kinda have in my head already (without having handled the 5D). I also realised how good this kind of thing is at getting me to look at members' portfolios...your's looks great, well done Smile

Why is everyone so hung up on size? Its a camera, not a "you know what"!
The 350D is small but that just means its easier to carry about, lighter around the neck and less conspicous!
    Jim

Haven't handled a 350d but had a good close look recently. Looks bulkier than my eos3000.

    Hi Mark,
Jokes aside, which I must thank you for taking my last comment as light-hearted Smile

Having had a quick review of the 5D and comparing the two I think the 5D has the edge with its already mentioned AS.

Tonguerice wise... its the same, so no contest!
:Image quality, well I put that down to lenses these days not the camera, although it plays a part without a good quality lens, your naffed!

So for me, I'd look and compare lens prices and see which are most cost effective and produce the over all 'better' quality photo...

I know its a bit of a twist, but maybe you'd not looked at it this way?

Hope this is of some help

    Cheers
    Craig Smile

I know what you mean Jim, but it is something that gets mentioned about the 350D. My hands aren't particularly large though so it's not really an issue (and is one of those things that comes under 'go into a shop and handle them'...which I banned from the thread Wink....)
