    Hi Guys,

    I just don't get it.

Why can't people post links? It's always annoyed me but it's simply ridiculous now...

    My step by step guide:

Decide on the wording of the link you want to have, for example if you wanted to link to a picture of a bird, type the words "bird photo"

THEN highlight this text, then press the "Insert Link" button above the text area of the post window.

In the box, copy & paste the link that you want; the complete link, complete with http://www. etc.

Press OK, and there you have it.

Done. What's so tricky about that?

    You mean like this?

(don't get caught in the paradox)!

I am selective with linking as I have had links removed that then make the post seem a bit irrelevant, links to “competitor sites” even though moderators and other EPZ staff have linked to the same sites, so I am a little confused what is/isn’t really “allowed”
Maybe there should be a list of not allowed sites?

Valid point, but that's not the one I was making.

What I'm ranting about is people who just post the URL (e.g. www.google.com as here, which doesn't make it a clickable link) and then put a silly note after it along the lines of "Sorry, can't do links"

WHY?! Are you incapable, lazy or something else all together?!

    Here you go:
3a. Do not use the forums to post any kind of advertising link to your business. Any threads which we feel are a breach of this rule will be deleted.

3b. The active promotion of charity, fundraising or business events in the forums cannot ordinarily be allowed. Where members aim to run an event that will involve asking participants for money it should be noted that you must first contact the site before starting a forum thread, any forum threads started without consent will be deleted.

3c. Links actively promoting members own websites and threads opened for this purpose will be removed from all but the Website Showcase category. Links to personal websites can be allowed in other categories if relevant to the subject being discussed and in the case of adding your own link, only if you are an active e2 member. Members without a portfolio (less than 16 images) will not be permitted to add personal links in forum posts. Links to personal websites can be freely added in the Website Showcase forum.

3d. Links to commercial website in which the member has an interest will only be allowed if relevant to the discussion. Where a thread is started on the premise of getting free advertising the thread may be deleted. We respectfully request that members do not ask friends or acquaintances to promote their businesses on their behalf, if we suspect such action is being taken we may consider the option of removing all profiles associated with this practice.

3e. Links to commercial website in which the member has no interest and linking to other information resources are allowed except where there is a legal or moral issue and subject to compliance of other T&Cs.

3f. Links to non-photographic sites allowed providing there is no legal or moral issue and does not breach other T&Cs.

3g. Links to direct competitor of ePHOTOzine is only allowed where information can be seen to be relevant to a topic - a link to relevant article may be allowed. At no time can a link to a direct competitor of ePHOTOzine be allowed for any other reason.

Personally in life I accept that some people have certain skills (or are willing to acquire them) and others don't. Perhaps before attacking others for their inabilities it is best to look at our own failings Wink

...why are so many, otherwise clever people, not clever enough to realize that not everyone is ?

....there are lots of people who can speak six languages and others who struggle to read and write.

Fair enough, you had your say and I took the opportunity to have mine, because I am a chancer Grin

Anyway I had problems with linking until someone pointed me in the direction of the tutorial, which iis to be fair pretty easy and straight forward to understand, maybe though it is partly laziness and partly “I cant find the how to” maybe a link to the tutorial at the head of the main forum page entitled “How to post links in the forum”

I am quite familiar with html and BB code etc so it was easy for me to understand, some just cant grapes this sort of stuff, yes a non linked url is a bit of an inconvenience but doing a c&p isn’t the end of the world either.

Yes I have read the posting rules and have done so several times, but it’s a bit open to interpretation, what one may think ok another may think it breaks the rules and will remove the link, so none the wiser.

wonder why the OP removed this from his original comment, perhaps he realised it was a bit of a stupid thing to say... Not everybody can be as clever as him Wink

I'm sorry? I haven't removed that from any comments, I don't 'do' that - it will stand forever Tongue

Granted it was a bit of a heated and rash comment, but then the first word of the thread title should indicate things to come... Wink

Yes but what you haven't explained is that you have to replace the word "null" with the URL.
