I need a new bag and have got upto 100 quid to spend. Ideally I'd like it to take a digi slr tele zoom and wide zoom, Metz 45, about 8 Cokin P filters and here's the joke, an etrsi with 40, 75 and 150mm lenses spare back and grip, oh and my sandwiches. The medium format can go in another bag if it can't be done. I do hate spending money on bags it's as interesting as buying onions. Any recomendations would be gratefuly accepted.
    Cheers

Hi Rob, I have a Crumpler bag which holds my entire 35mm kit (no room for my Hasselblad in it though!) which I would heartily recommend. They're very sturdy without being old fashioned and have a good strap which won't cut into your shoulder. They do make rucksacks now (see the recent news story which might be better for your back if you're going to be lugging all of that around!

Thanks Helen I'll have a look. I think I'm wanting too much with the etrsi kit as well.

As long as there's room for the sandwiches!

    Hi Rob

I'd recommend the Lowepro Mini Trekker AW. It has loads of room and a large front pocket that can accommodate lots and lots of bits and pieces. You can also add Sliplock accessories on the outside for extra storage. Mine holds a 35mm body with a big 100-400 IS zoom, 100mm macro and 28-135mm IS lens, two 550EX flashguns, anglefinder attachment, extension tube, 1.4x extender, filters (Cokin P & others), Speedlight transmitter, camera bits and pieces, plenty of film, and I've a pocket on the outside with my ringflash in it.

Lowepro bags are top notch, and come with a very long warranty. Zips and such like are very robust and on the whole the bags are designed to provide long and reliable service. The next size up is the Nature Trekker, but I think the Mini hold just as much inside. The Nature Trekker has a better harness system and can have more attached to the outside. Nature Trekker mkII has just been launched, you might find a good s/h example or even a run-out of the old Nature Trekker within your budget.

    Hi Rob,
I also have a Lowepro Mini Trekker, which holds, (deep breath), Nikon F80 + 3 lenses, Pentax MG + 2 lenses, Minolta Dimage 7i, Assorted Cokin Filters etc, pod bean bag, various batteries, manuals, various film, 1/2 litre bottle of water, sandwiches! and last but not least a tripod. It weighs a ton, is a real SOB to carry round, and I wouldn't be without it. As Jo said, they are well built, well padded, good straps and harness, you can add bits on to the waist belt, side straps, etc and it never seems quite full up. It is also small enough (!) to take on as hand luggage on an airplane. I thoroughly recommend the Lowepro rucksacks.

Mini Trekker AW, currently on Jessops Online site at 108.99, though I'm pretty sure you will find it cheaper if you hunt around. Mini Trekker non AW around 60 to 70. The AW version has a fold away hood to give it All Weather protection.

Hope i'm not being too boring but the less your backpack looks like its got a whole load of camera gear in it, the less its bound to get nicked or your likely to get mugged for it. I would say if you could get a fairly plain one that still protects your gear. Mari

If someone wants to nick a backpack, they'll do so regardless. Someone who is after my kit will be more attracted by seeing me actively taking photos than the size/brand of my backpack. The heavier it is, the harder it will be for someone to make a quick getaway. Try a snatch on my bag and you'll do yourself a mischief!

That's why I normally take my 20 stone hubby with me when I'm out taking pics. The sort of places that are good for photos are also good for flashers and such like.

Lowepro bags are plain black, or black/green. The Mini Trekker is reasonably unobtrusive.

The cheapest I've seen the Mini Trekker AW was in one of the magazines at 90. Speed Graphic charge about 93. The Classic (version without the AW cover) is selling for around 60-70. Watch out for some stores still trying to clear the old model at the old price!

Have you thought about the Stealth range from Lowepro, these are a shoulder bag, and have a large capacity.
I have bought a Tamrac shoulder bag recently and it swallows my kit; DSLR, two lenses, four sets of batteries, 20Gb portable hard-drive, battery charger, all the required leads for charger/battery packs, all my filters and sunfries. I still have room for my sandwiches and a bottle of water.

I'm swaying towards the Billingham 445, It certainly looks good, I know there very hardwaring and confortable to carry with the shoulder pad they have. Only problem is the price 150.00 I'll try and grovel to my GF, my birthday is in November and she may treat me.
