I would definitely pull all your images from this library immediately. Even if, as with most libraries, there is a clause in the contract stipulating a set period of notice before your shots can be removed, I would think that legally you are entitled to immediate return as the library has already broken their side of the contract by not paying you!

But most libraries are run ethically. I have even had requests from my library for shots that were required by a client that weren't on file. If your work has been selling (even if you weren't paid for it) then it will continue to sell, and may do even better with a more successful library.

I think the library itself has already broken any kind of contract there may have been!

I think I will. In my mind it's fraud, plain and simple.
The company has been very clever and opted for a CVA. A press release has been put out telling everyone how happy we all are now and how we are moving forward! Not the fact that we have been bullied into agreeing to it in order to get a little bit of the money we are owed back, and if we don't continue to submit images, they will go under, and everyone will lose out.

Quote: QuoteTonguefffft .. and even then you can't guarantee you're being paid for all the pics she sold - are her records even correct. That's another thing. We asked for an independent audit that was refused. Sally then appointed her own company to do the audit, and in the letter from this company detailing the repayment offer, it states they have had no access to Red Cover's books, and all figures were provided by Red Cover. So you are right....we have no idea if the amount she says she owes us is actually true!

To add insult to injury they are now recruiting for new staff and calling themselves an 'expanding' company....how can this be right. Surely we should get our money first?

    Hi All,

I'm new here and found the posting through a google search for Red Cover picture library. I've been asked to join them and I am aware of their issues.

My question is: A few of you have mentioned other picture libraries that specialize in interiors (My people work is with Corbis). I wonder if any of you would/could give me their names so I can do a thorough search before committing resources toward any one of them?

    thanks much

    Hi everyone,

I am also new here and just like Timothy Bell I came across this thread when researching Red Cover. I just wanted to post a warning to anyone applying for the 2008 drive for work experience. I have heard that it is far from worthwhile!

Red Cover are currently recruiting swarms of people to do 'work experience' with them.

However, instead of providing any releveant insight into the picture library business, they are getting the volunteers to perform an extremely mundane daily task 9 - 5, 5 days a week. In the interview it is stated that there is a good chance of a permanent job becoming available. Well, as soon as you reliase that you are merely one of a current group (and next in a long procession) of work experience people, you will have revealed the first lie. Some people have been there for quite a while already (months!), and for no pay. This is a complete waste of time - and dont expect a reference that states anything more than the dates you have been there. I think the task you do is something to do with withdrawing transparencies/images from the database. They obviously need a lot of people to help them out with this! oh dear.

This only goes to show how desperate and morally deprived this company is, and not at all as well respected or prestigious as they would like to believe - on a few of occassions the staff were heard to remark "do they KNOW who we are?". Well yes, I rather think we do....

As stated in comments by others, there are plenty of more ethically run and sucessful libraries out there. Seems to me that this Red Cover are not worth the risk of dealing with.

I think something needs to be done about this company right away! I have spoken to several photographers recently who have been contacted by Red Cover to join them. They had no idea what happened last year and were taken in by the promise that this library would make them lots of money. Well yes they will, they just wont pay you for it!

I'm also shocked that they after seeing the post from other at how they are treating their staff!!!

On the subject of what did happen last year you may be interested to know that sales statements are STILL coming late, usually with some excuse about a problem with the accounting system which held them up (this excuse seems to be their favorite). Also the promise of a transparent commission payments system seems to have been forgotten as well as most of the the promises made when the CVA was agreed.

I think we need to do all we can to warn other photographers of the dangers of Red Cover.

I'm actually in the process of seeking legal advise as to where I stand now after the CVA agreement and the fact that I still believe they are not being honest.

I've just been told by a contributor that they are now slashing their prices!
They have a sale on features, actually offering features for free when you buy one from them. They are now also doing the same on stock
offering up to 30% off image sales!!!
It's hard enough getting good rates for images without doing this. How are photographers supposed to get their money back when things are being given away?

Following up Timothy Bells question a couple of years ago, can anyone recommend a good picture library that specialises in interiors?

Depends at what level you consider your work to be at but Arcaid is the obvious one that springs to mind.

    And View

I would never do business with a library that does not have a long standing, solid reputation. There are too many "fly by night" set ups that have appeared in recent times, without proper financial backing or organisation.........avoid them.
