That's not a proper memory. Remember when the tally man used to come knocking on the door, Friday evening ? "Me Mam's not in." ' Alright, son, tell her I'll call next Friday." "Mam, he says he will call next Friday." SmileTongueWink

    Guffaw!

Memory jogged this morning by the mention of the muffin man coming round the streets of our village. Wicker baskets and a tea towel, or similar covering the warm muffins. Which brought to mind the fish man coming round with his horse and cart. He shouted, " Caller haarn." I always thought, until 2 years ago, he was shouting herring. [Haarn is the old NE word for herring.] 'Caller' is old NE word for - cool, fresh. So there you have it - Caller haarn - cool, or fresh herring.

We used to put custard on our rhubarb, tasted much better.

I think one of our neighbours used to bake a rhubarb and horse muck tart, served with custard, and dish it up to her drunken husband, on a Sunday afternoon after the roast beef and puds. Just to get her own back on him. It might be one of those modern folktales, though.Tongue

Who remembers the Bossa Nova, you oldies ?Smile

Remember when our parents were in debt, with hire purchase. Put down a third for the new washing machine, tv., bed, clothes prop Smile. Today, debt means nothing, - it is all on the credit card. Nobody cares.

If you remember whipper snappers you are old enough to remember these things Wink

I cycled through a housing estate a few days ago on my way home using a shortcut that once took me through a park me and a few friends would hang around in during the mid 80's, I actually thought to myself "I remember when this was a field"

    Made me feel old

And you got home without injury or theft? Must have been an up-market area.
