Which flash gun do I need to assist with my Canon 180mm Macro lens. Do I need to go for a ring Flash for best results?

If you can't afford the Canon, try the Marumi Ringflash. Although you don't have anywhere near the same amount of control it gives very good results at a fraction of the price.

IF you can afford it, the Canon MT-24 EX is more flexible than a ring flash.

A simple speedlite (430EXII or 580EXII) with something like a lumiquest softbox can actually give pretty good lighting from the camera hotshoe alone. It works even better with the longer macro lenses since the longer working distances mean that the light gets cast more evenly over the subject. I also recomend this if you don't currently have a speedlite flash since it has far more scope and usability outside of macro work - whilst the dedicated macro flashes are more limited

Thank you. That really is helpful. There is plenty for me to go at there.
