With a 5" screen. It's way bigger than my current smartphone and not shirt-pocketable - 136.6mm in height.

But maybe this could be an alternative to a tablet?

Beats the iPhone on spec but with everything synced with my iMac, NAS, and Time Capsule a major upheaval to change operating system and transfer data to Samsungs horrible software - KIERS i think or something like that.

In the phones perhaps, But an 8mm lens is an 8mm lens and all that jazz, Makes no odds who makes it, It is still a tiny spec of plastic.....Grin Not really a product endorsement as such.

That said I thought Zeiss where responsible for Sony badged lens....Wink

I think Zeiss is the badge on the lens - not sure why Sony would be involved.

As I'm not an Apple hostage, this has got to be a possibility, not just as a phone replacement, but as a means of avoiding buying a tablet as well.

A tablet it is not. Far easier to type the simplest of things on a tablet than a phone...any phone. The Galaxy Note comes closer and would be the obvious photographers phone-cum-tablet.

Why would that be? The Galaxy Note has a 5.8" screen compared to the 5" screen of the S4..... not a huge difference, surely?

Even on the 3.5" screen of my current phone , and using Swype - as I am doing right now, I don't have any problem. Smile

The S Pen, CB and that .8 can make all the difference.

Ok, thanks. A cousin of mine has the Galaxy Note, I think. I'll see if I can have a play next time I'm over there.

I'd disagree. I'm currently using my S3 as a mobile router for my laptop, and it also gets daily use as a sat-nav and mobile computer. I picked up a cable for it (only cost a quid), and can plug in portable hard drives or my DSLR for data transfer on the go.

.8 of an inch is almost a twenty percent increase CB. Think of it as the difference between a 36 and a 42 inch TV.

I wouldn't regard that as a particularly significant difference. Smile
