I have recently purchased a second hand estate car so that I can use for my part time business. I was considering sign writing it with my business name, logo tel no etc. It then dawned on me that I don't think that I've never seen a sign written car advertising a Photographer or photographic services and wondered if there's a good reason for this? Would it make the car vulnerable and tempting to thieves?
I would appreciate all feedback, comments and opinions to help me decide whether to go ahead with my idea. Thank you, Moelwyn.

I can't hurt to advertise what you do, my cousin sells designer shoes and has her web address on the back bumper of her car, it wouldn't hurt to start there.

Possibly. And I wouldn't do it without mentioning to your insurance company if I were you.

There is a very good reason why you dont see any sign written cars or vans.

You could equally put - tens of thousands in photo gear locked in the boot in big letters - might have the same effect!

If you want to advertise rather than sign-writing the car I know a few people who for their business have a magnetic sign. So it is easy to remove when parked up and therefore less likely to attract the unwanted attention as Joe suggests.

You can advertise when on 'location' sort of thing, but at least it isn't permanent.

Careful with the magnetic signs though - they are only guaranteed up to 45mph Wink

Very funny going down the motorway watching them fly off the side of the van and get run over by an artic Wink

As I drove up to Focus this year, I passed several cars with signs on for photographers. Have to say though, they were all beat up old heaps.

Of course, if you have the car as a company car, having advertising on it means that every mile is a business mile, so it's a good way of beating the tax man.

    i daren't

people will always think you have gear on board

    ditto for insurance reasons..

Even if the kit wasn't in your motor then you will have to deal with the damage caused by any break-in....

I'm also not convinced anyone would hire a photographer because they saw a sign written car - you could spend your advertising money more wisely.

One of my chums is a keyboard pro and has "Pianist" and his phone number across the back of his leather motorcycle jacket!!!

He admits that he's never got any work this way, although people sometimes misread the lettering.......

If you sign write your van there are laws about where you leave it aswell...

Something to do with advertising your business in public...

I think you can't leave it on your drive in view of other people or summit (although i can't really remember!!)

AFAIK the only restrictions are the royal parks. Not sure if it still aploes but a friend of mine had magnetic adverts so that he could go through the Royal Parks.
