Well, the Canon extender will work on that lens, although you're right about the AF. Don't see how trying out the Sigma version could be harmful.

things should be fine - you might find the connection a little stiff with the sigma, but that is not uncommon - even with my sigma 150mm which is rated as being compatable there is a little stiffness which I don't feel with canon TCs - just be slightly firm, but don't force it.

Thanks for helpful answers, i shall give it a try.

    Nick..

Thing to remember is Sigma kit fits best with Sigma lenses, I use Nikon bodies then sometimes add a Sigma 1.4 to my 70-200 f2.8 Sigma lens.

That's the best combo in my opinion, tried a Kenko and it played up all he time. So if I use a Nikon lens I'll use in Nik 1.4 converter.

They just seem to work better that way.

    I have a Sigma 1.4 and it will only fit my Sigma 100-300 f4. I can't
put anything else on it because the glass sticks out a bit...

Don't know what your AF would be like using it with an 5.6...might not work or be a a bit unresponsive in lower light...
