    Dear all,

I am in need of some urgent help and advice.

My girlfriend has "won a competition for a makeover and photshoot" day at a company called Starlitestudios.co.uk. They are offering a free modelling portfolio.

I was wandering if anyone has had this done or been involved with this?

They want £50 deposit via her bank details which i find a bit dodgy!

    Your help will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advanced, Anil

That sounds like the kind of scheme consumer organisations warn against all the time!

I can't find them, are you sure you've got the URL correct?
I think you've answered yourself - £50 deposit for something that's free is dodgy, asking for your bank details is asking for trouble. Plenty of these scams around.

    Apologies... www.skylitestudios.co.uk

They have a website which seems pretty genuine, but doesnt seem professional enough for a photographic and modelling agency.

Thanks for all your advice, further opinions will be appreciated!

    Anil

Why are they asking for a £50 deposit via bank details...... It says on their site £30 via a credit card.
Seems they get their business from offering free portfolios which aren't free.

Maybe it's the make up and hair combing that's free.
cos you have to supply your own outfits and buy the prints

I've changed the title for you. They charge a booking fee for appointments but thats £30, not £50.00. Have you asked the studio why they want this?

Thanks for all your comments. Have got to the bottom of it. i found a website reviewing the studio. Very negative comments, they are con artists. STAY AWAY! no bank details given, told them where to go. Apparently they entice you into the studio with the "free" offer, but wont let you leave until you have paid for a minimum of 5 photos...costing around £4-500. I DONT THINK SO!

hi i won a competition with this company to give myself n 4 friends a full make over n a meal n £250.00 pounds in photo shoots, but they wanted £150.00 of me as a deposit. surely the idea of winning a competition is that everything is free u shouldnt need to pay a deposit for a prize.

When you have experienced 'no shows' after booking out your studio and arranging hair stylists and makeup artists then possibly the need for a deposit becomes apparent... ??

Ok so hyperthetically speaking, you arrange this makeover day that someone has won, you book out time in your studio that could used for others, book hairstylist and make up artist and your competition winner fails to show... are you happy to pay both hair stylist and makeup artist for their time and foot the bill for studio time as well? And if you think it doesn't happen...

yeah ok thats fine but y should every body else be penalise for people who don't show, people shouldn't tar every1 with the same brush, and also when u win a competition you r gonna show up anyway.

As a rule if I see money wanted for something you have won. Its a con....

If you don't turn up for something free, why would they charge you? You would just loose your free visit imo.

hi, I have also won that prize from skylite studios, i won it on valentines day (inthe alentines draw) however the man on the phone told me that only 5 people had won the priza, I was weondering if thewre was anybody else that has won because if there is more than 5 people that have then they have clearly rang eryone up who enterd the competition and it is a con.

DONT DO IT!! They tempt you in with a free prize shoot, but them expect you to pay stupid prices for poor quality photos, with two "friendly" big guys at the door, refusing to let you leave without payment. it is a con. Dont do it!
