I would`nt worry too much over spare batteries, the compatibles on Amazon are just as good and a fraction of the price.
Most compacts will give you 2-300 shots from one battery, the numbers might seem low and that`s simply because the batteries are so small.
Yes....The battery in my DSLR lasts FOREVER (Or at least the entire day. It's not like it's always switched on or anything) and I've never used my compact camera enough in one go to have drained the battery so I wasn't overly worried about it. I think the official rating for the battery in that Lumix I was looking at is 260 and I've just checked the CIPA rating for my current model and that's just 250, so not a big issue at all I think
