Arrived home this evening around 10pm and looked up at the stars (as one often does) when I spotted a large blob of light coming from a south-westerly direction. It was moving uniformly like a satellite but was much bigger. I rushed inside to get the binoculars but the blob just looked bigger with no additional resolution. Anyone know if the ISS was due over the UK tonight?

Sounds like it and the time was about right. Its around most evenings now. There's a website you can go on to check out when its due (http://www.isstracker.com/) or tweet @peoplesastro for updates

    That looks interesting.
I'll keep a look out for that next time the sky's clear enough.

It'll be visible for nine more nights (over Ireland anyway)

The heavens-above.com website is one of the best resources for showing sightings of all the thousands of man-made Earth satellites up there. The Iridium ones can flare up so bright sometimes that I've seen them in daylight!

I've also found that they do an Android app which basically points you to the place in the sky that you should be looking! Very clever stuff.

For those in Leeds - it's due again around 8.45pm tonight coming from a WSW direction. Should be visible for up to five minutes, weather permitting.

Check your location and time here (thanks Ewan) -

Just watched it go over. Despite partial cloud cover it was so bright we could still see it. Even my wife and son, who are usually difficult to enthuse over such things, were impressed.

Same here. Makes you wonder how many folk think it's a UFO?
