Standard zoom lens for Sony Nex system

27 Mar 2013 2:46AM
There have been some nice new lenses coming out for the Sony Nex system, but what I'd really like to have is a standard zoom lens with better optical quality than Sony's 18-55mm kit lens. Something that I'd feel comfortable with as an all-the-time lens. Does anyone else feel the same? This seems like a missed opportunity for Sony, or Sigma, or whoever.

I don't think the standard 18-55 is that bad Paul.it seems sharp enough for me.I also have the 50mm 1;8 now that is sharp

Sigma 19mm f/2.8 + Sigma 30mm f/2.8 + Sony 50mm f/1.8 oss = better optical quality & sharpness Smile

Neither do I, but this question does seem to crop up a lot, maybe people expect too much from this kit lens.

This is interesting. There is a review here:

which basically says (well, my interpretation) its a really good lens if you get a good one.
There seems to be a lot of that about, these days - how the &"#[ is the consumer supposed to be able to test what they've bought to see if it is a good 'un or a bad 'un? What is QC, one asks?

The problem is that lenses are not tested out in the real world.

You can spend all day comparing pictures of brick walls and some lenses will look better than others.
