And its by - DISNEY And I'm not joking it really is!

I'm -- not sure how to take the news myself - Disney can do some very good stuff, and they can do some fairly average and some rather bad stuff. It's big news for sure!

The original plan was for 9 movies. Lucas basically started with the middle of the story with 4,5 and 6. So they can do 7-9 whilst following something of the original concept (maybe). After that who knows!

Doesn't sound good to me, the franchise has been damaged enough with Episodes 1-3!!!

Well even they couldn't do much worse than George himself did with The Phantom Moron

I thought the current film the best in the franchise, back up to the level of Casino Royal and much better than "Quantum of Solace" that fell below the par.

well........ anyone who has read the novels following Return of the Jedi kinda knows what happens to Luke and his chums after Vader and the Emporer die and the Empire crumbles, but do we need more films?

The only films from 1-3 i can watch is Revenge of the ****, the other 2 leave me feeling cheated, they are appalling films, though he sold out with those teddies in ROTJ anyway, we forgave him, but Jar Jar Binks? Even simpletons dislike that character. And the young "Annie" Vader was just sickly.

Can Disney do any better? I don't think they can do no worse. But Star Wars isn't their vision, that belongs to Mr Lucas and no one else, well, maybe Ralph McQuarrie who helped with the original concept artwork and creation of many memorable characters and landscapes, interiors and exteriors. The secret to Star Wars is to make the entire farce seem plausible and real, which the original first film (i refuse to call it A New Hope, a title which is ironic in itself) did copiously, the famous cantina scene was so far out when we first saw it, but we instantly bought it because of the myriad of characters there, the mood of the cantina, the way it was lit, it looked filthy and grubby, but very real, though the devil looking horned alien was pushing it a bit, but those visions came from a young hippys eyes. Whose vision will it be now?

As for the storylines themselves, their spoilt for choice, but my money is on the Yuuzhan Vong Wars, though Hans courtship of Leia may be a big money spinner/crowd puller/turkey/predictable cliché....

I can't believe that Lucas has given away Star Wars, considering how much he guarded the 'franchise', but then for £2.5B I can maybe understand why. Wink

Jar Jar Binks was a major flaw of the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, but all the three latest films cast a shadow over the previous three films.

If you felt some of the last three films were a bit sickly and cringe worthy, wait till Disney get their hands on it. Hopefully I'm wrong, and they'll do a great job, but not from my experience of Disney. :-(

I am not all that clued up on disney, the most recent film i think i watched was Mary Poppins! I know they now own Pixar, which was a lucas project originally, or something associated with one his his projects at least, it was responsible for ROTJ, whose success is wide open for debate, though Henderson played a large part in the films naffness.

    From the bbc website...

Disney said it planned to release a new Star Wars film, episode seven, in 2015.

That will be followed by episodes eight and nine and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said.

So there we have it, a ton of new star wars films heading our way, like it or not, all in glorious 3D and screaming kiddies.

Mr Lucas will continue as a creative consultant.

    Creative Consultant? Oooooooooooooooooooookay....

I actually think its a shame him selling out to the big guys, because thats exactly who he was fighting in those early days filming the original star wars film, and part of the reason the film was so good, because it didnt have the input of clueless movie executives with silly demands.

Oh George, your such a kent!

Well, i guess with Kathleen 'Kerching' Kennedy at the helm it explains why so many Star Wars related fan-art sites and products have recently been banished from the web...
