    Hello guys,

My Nikon D5000 has been stolen from my home in Isleworth along with Nikon AFS DX 18-55mm VR lens and Tamron 70-300mm F4/5.6 DI LD Macro (Nikon AF) lens.

The serial number for the camera is 2135788.
    For the Tamron: 232809
I don't have the serial number of the 18-55mm lens.

Please don't buy any of the above as it has been reported to the Police as stolen property. If you come across any of the above equipment please report to the police or email me.

    Regards

    Rahul

Good luck with this Rahul... but I wouldn't hold my breath to be frank.

This will be 'jobbed out' in the pub to some unsuspecting person and... it'll be gone.

Well done for noting the serial numbers. That should certainly help with the insurance claim.

Just borrowing from your misfortune, I have heard of two cases recently where insurance companies were asking for original receipts before they would pay out. In both cases they were forced to pay because the policy holders had photographs of the stolen goods.

So, if anyone does not have receipts for their photographic gear, it is well worth photographing it alongside something that identifies place and date.

i have been round my house and photographed everything of value next to a newspaper from the day. and then detail photos of the serial numbers etc, then taken three copies, i have one, and two more have gone to two other houses, incase we loose the whole house in a fire, and then dont have proof of ANY of our possessions, as receipts would also be gone in a fire.

i update the photos every year, or if we make any big purchases that need logging. Smile

I have an even simpler system - I don't have any insurance! It saves paying all those premiums... Wink

These days even if you keep the receipt, after a year or two they fade away to almost nothing

Keep your eyes open on E-bay some thieves are quite dim, hence why so many get caught, but not enough.
Sorry to here about your thief issue, it happened to me once and I know it is horrible and upsetting.
Hope you were insured, always a wise move.

I keep receipts as a matter of course but having said that, I've had to make two claims in the past, one for a lost gold bracelet and one for a camera and in each case, the insurance company paid up immediately.
I've just renewed my insurance with said company but gone for a different (cheaper) set-up and I asked about the protocol, shoud I make a claim and was it necesary to have receipts, photos etc. and they said not to bother. They reckoned that receipts get lost or could have come from anywhere and a photograph, of a camera for example, meant nothing as it could be a photograph of anyone's camera.
My word in a phone call, telling them what's lost/stolen etc. will be sufficient.
So, with that company at least, nothing's changed and claiming is, apparently, still srtaightforward.
In fact, Rahul, I'd hope that your insurance company will be getting you sorted out with a payment of some kind by now. In my experience, it only took a phone call and I had an offer in a couple of hours.

    Jester.

There is a website where you can list valuable items with serial numbers etc which might help get them back if stolen, plus it might support an insurance claim in that you have provided details in the past confirming that you (had) owned them. I believe the site is either registered with the police or supported by them. If I can find the site again I'll post.

Found it and my stuff is already registered. A bit late for Rahul, but might help someone else.
