Strange Lightroom Behaviour ?

A B&W image shot in the camera gets converted to color once imported to Light room. Is this normal or am i missing a trick here ? Not that it really matters since i usually shoot color and then convert if need be but an image accidentally taken in B&W when imported to LR changed to color, the camera used was a 1000D i then replicated this using the 7D same result..LR version is 3.2. Ohh and the imported images were in RAW format

It's normal. It's because you shot in RAW.

thanks, so in effect when shooting RAW it doesn't matter what mode you shoot in since its still going to capture all the info ?

I am confused... if you are shooting in RAW how did you get a B&W image in camera ?

RAW is just that, its the basic data. When you shoot B&W in camera but record RAW what it does is create a small JPEG which displays on the camera back. When you import you can read the preset if you use the camera mfrs RAW converter.

I set the option in the picture styles menu of the camera to shoot in Mono, and the image format is set to RAW

That also applies to many more of the camera settings. If you shoot in RAW the settings do not affect the RAW file - but they will affect the wee Jpeg that you see in the camera LCD.

By the way, if you convert to monochrome in Lightroom, it is worth downloading the "WOW" presets which have a number of interesting monochrome options.
