Is there a compact camera available nowdays which has a wide angle lens (say 28mm - 30 mm) and is quite fast.

I am looking for something that is not to heavy or bulky and which won't draw attention to much as in the case sometimes of an SLR.

    Thanks.

How about a second hand TLR? There's a few that take 35mm as well as MF. They may be a bit bulky, but shooting from the waist makes you a little more invisible and less likely to draw attention to yourself.

Leica M6 or M7. The M6 is BEAUTIFUL, compact and has interchangable lens. I have the 35mm f2 and it's gorgeous. They do a 28mm f2 or f2.8 only a small mortgage needed for the 2.8!

    Alan the happy M6 owner:O))

    Thanks Alan, Kit.

I am a bit worried that I may attract attention walking around with an M6 or M7 especially around London. Second hand with a 28 or 35 lens I will have equipment well over 1000 which might be sought.

Although I don't mind spending a few quid, I was looking for something a bit less expensive and quick to use.
A compact would be ideal, but I can't seem to find one with a very good lens.

Failing this, could anyone suggest an old manual camera that would be worth looking into and which although old would still be reliable.

If you can live with a 35mm lens instead of 28mm the Yashica T5 could be of interest to you.......Its very compact- about the size of a pack of cigs, auto focus, auto exposure, Tessar lens (very good contrast) and it has a second viewfinder on the top plate so you dont have to hold it to your eye to use it!
I dont think they are in production anymore (last one went on sale late 2002 I think) but I have seen them secondhane around 80. I have one I use for back-up (and its not for sale!)

why not try a Minox 35GT, going relatively cheap on Ebay and small as you like.

The Olympus C-5060 has a (35mm equiv) zoom range of 27-110mm.

I assumed David was after a film camera as this is the film forum?

Well maybe - but no reason why he should not consider the digital alternative. It may not have occurred to him.

I only ever look at the Recent Activity page so don't tend to pay much heed to which bit of the forum things are posted in! It's often the wrong bit anyway. Wink

Try the Ricoh GR1, aperture priority and a lovely 28mm lens. If anyone knows of a compact digital point & shoot of reasonable quality with a 28-ish mm lens I'd love to know what it is, because I'd have bought one if it was out there earlier this year! Ricoh's caplio GX (28-85 equiv.) might have fit the bill, but I feel their digital compacts are not well made enough.

Well the owners of the aforesaid Olympus seem pretty pleased with it. See HERE.

It's a very nice camera, but it's neither particularly compact, nor at 380ish cheap.
