Strobist Flash

18 Feb 2013 4:32PM
Was looking for a cheap bounce flash with a tilt/swivel head, like a Sunpak 383 for strobist usage...search results threw up Sunpak Auto30DX, Soligor 30DX, Centon FH85...any idea what these are like? They are in the 15-20 pounds sterling range...

Can anybody suggest other brand names?

Had an email from Calumet the other day advertising their own brand flash head at 149.00, dunno if it's any good, but it certainly ticks all the boxes and I haven't had any bother with their own brand kit that I do own......Have a look HERE it might prove to be useful?

I believe the Yongnuo flashes are highly regarded by many.

Thumbs up for Yongnuo from me. Those substandard extra cheapo flashguns are not worth wasting money over, their weak and prone to malfunctions after a very short period of time!

Yongnuo all the way

if they smash on the floor you've lost about 40, rather than 400

and they're very reliable so far

40 a lot when you can pick up units for a couple of quid each Smile

A couple of quid is a lot compared to 1 pence

Given the similar model numbers, is The Sunpak Auto 30DX the same as the Soligor 30DX? I know Sunpak used to rename and sell their flashguns through Ritz Camera as Quantaray...
