Here we have the third RAW challenge. First we had Keith's landscape, then Ian's studio Portrait and now one of my Reenactment scenes. Download this 12.8mb RAW FILE, taken using a from a Pentax *ist D, and come up with your own take on it. You can do what you like to increase/decrease saturation, tone or contrast, add grain remove noise, soften, sharpen, crop patch or boost, convert, tone or colour.

When you've done save at 500 pixels and post in the modifcation bit here. You have until Monday morning around 9:00am to create and upload. I'll then pick a winner who can have a softback version of the book...yes THE BOOK!

    Go for it!

Out of interest is this mainly a raw conversion challenge .. or is photoshop allowed to be used heavily too?

Try right-clicking the link and selecting 'save as' or save file as' (depending on your browser)

    It should work fine Smile

Thanks.....but still no go can only save as save target not sure if that makes a difference.

Try to open in Photoshop just says Tiff file uses unsupported colour space.

not to worry, not any good at these lol but a good practice never mind Sad cheers.

yes Photoshop can be used. Basically you start with the RAW file and it's up to you how what you end up with. Although I will be looking for a natural shot, not a comedy one and one that doesn't have any new elements included, just enhanced or removed.

Download a RAW converter if you haven't already got one, Phase One LE is downloadable as a free trial

use the 'open as' command in PS, and open as camera raw file

Doesn't open for me either. ext .PEF is not recognized ( greyed out) Change etx to .tiff = bit depth unsupported in PS7. Maybe it's ok in cs2, not in PS7 and C1 LE doesn't recognise it either. Not on my Mac. Sad
PS Graphic converter opens it as a black oblong.......Browser doesn't open it either......That's me out. Sad

PS doesn't like it as it's an unsupported colour space and as far as I can tell Capture One doesn't even want to start acknowledging it's existance.
