How much would you be willing to pay for the S3. Fuji have jet to announce prices but in the UK it will probably be higher than any where else, and with less software. I, for one will probably buy one in a year or so, hopefully when prices start to drop. On paper it looks brilliant.

Having looked at your portfolio, Gibbsy I am sure that whatever camera you have, you would produce great pics! Smile

Sorry, I know that's not an answer... just a comment! Wink

If you already have an S2, is there any particular reason for changing it?

Personally, I wouldn't buy it as it would be too limiting for the sort of use I put cameras to. But that is not a criticism of it.

I'll probably see what happens to the prices of the S2 - I doubt that the S3 will be in my price range

    Carabosse,

    You criticise - never !

Of course this pro camera doesn't do things to satisfy your demanding needs...remind us again video capture, a tilty screen and making the tea ?

    Mike

I've just been having a quick look at the spec of the beast and it looks very good. I would imagine it's going to be expensive though Sad Oh well, I guess I'll just have to start saving. It also depends on what Minolta bring out in the DSLR line as I already have some Minolta AF fit glass for my Dynax 8000i (I do hope it'll be compatible - otherwise I'm going to cry)

    Time will tell no doubt

    Frank,

Not to set this place alight but I was talking to some photographic friends last night and thrird party 0rumour from Konica-Minolta rep that the new DSLR might be 4/3 like the Olympus E-1

    Mike.

    D'oh !!!!

Oooo I hate camera companies sometimes.
I wonder how true that rumour is going to be. Having said that, I was looking at some of the DSLRs and wondering about the whole DSLR/pro-sumer compact thing. I have the S602z pro which does pretty much everything I need from a digital point of view and I already have a 35mm SLR (as well as a Bronica) so I think it's probably just me being a geek and always wanting the bleeding edge technology. Trouble with being on the bleeding edge is that it sometimes dies.

Fuji have alledgedly signed up to the 4/3 system, and I think Olympus could use another company getting their hands dirty, else the 4/3 might end up a dead duck, which I think will be a shame, but I doubt very much wether the S3 will be 4/3. For a start it uses, or appears to use, the same lens mount as the S2, which immedietly disqualifies it from being 4/3. (And it also uses the same sensor size as the S2)

Methinks it's just Konica-Minolta stirring things up. They, after all, have a lot more to worry about with their DSLR than Fuji does.

    Colin

I wonder if Fuji are going to be extremely brave and run the two systems side by side ?? I should think the R&D costs would be horrendous but you never know . . .
Maybe their "Pro" DSLRs will be like the S2/S3 and they may run a "consumer" series in 4/3

Dear Frenchie, I really wasn't criticising the S3. I am sure that like all so-called pro cameras it is built like a tank and capable of falling down a mountainside without coming to any harm!!

That is almost more important than its picture-taking capabilities and features for a pro.... as I am given to understand!!

Interesting news. I was expecting a significant increase in resolution this time, but the way I understand the 'S' and 'R' pixels system is that one records high levels of light and one is sensitive to low levels of light, hence the claimed increase in dynamic range. Strictly speaking, this is not an increase in resolution. (I may be wrong here).

The answer, then, is no, I won't buy one. I made a decision to upgrade when the resolution doubles (as long as the price is reasonable) and in my view that hasn't happened yet.

If it's an improvement on the S2, I would certainly reccommend it to first time DSLR buyers, though. And if Mr Lottery comes knocking on the door, I would have to seriously consider going against my decision on upgrading! Smile

    Carabosse,

No it's AND not instead of....that's why they are expensive and don't have flappy tilt/swivel screens

Having had the S2 for six months, and looking on the Fuji site,i think a lot of S2 users are disappointed, with the news about the S3,as far as I'm concerned it is nothing more than a slight improvement,on the S2,so i wont be buying it,at the end of the day it not the camera that matters but the person behind it.

Well I'm not going to be throwing my camera down a mountainside any time soon! So I will continue to enjoy its features and versatility! Smile (Not noticed any flapping... impossible, actually, if you hold the camera in its natural position left hand under the lens).

Andytvcams is so right in what he says. But we love new toys don't we!

What difference does a 4/3 lens have to a reg?
I think the S3 looks good but i think an S2 will still be enoght for most, it will me anyway, when i save up for one!
