Transocean has always maintained that BP is solely responsible for the oil spill.

thats prob why... use BP as the scape goat and to prove the point .... give the top brass a payrise ...

Well what do you expect of the American administration. Not just Transocean but also Halliburton jointly operated that rig along with BP. Yet Obama's nightly rants on American TV were all about holding British Petroleum solely responsible. (with the emphasis on the word "British")

America seems unable to accept blame for the shortcomings of its own operators, besides some pretty powerful U.S. political figures allegedly have stakes in the other two companies.

Look at the way the Union Carbide executives fled India and refused to return to answer for the terrible Bhopal disaster, leaving the families of the dead workers with a pittance for compensation.
