A while ago I bought a Velbon 630 with a Manfrotto 701RC2 head (which is really for video cameras and bird watching). I've now brought a Manfrotto 804RC2 3-Way Pan/Tilt Tripod Head but its not cmpatable with the tripod (dispite both heads being Manfrotto). I tried Jessops but they couldn't help - no luck on the inernet either. Any clues how I can save buying a new tripod and just get the necessary part?

Have you tried Duct Tape ? Or just buy a manfretto tripod !
In what way is it 'incompatible'?
Is it just the size of the screw thread?
If this is the case, you can get 'tripod bush adapters' to remedy this. Jessops do them in packs of two.
If the original Manfrotto head fit okay I suggest you look inside the screw fitting - you should see a slot which will be your bush adapter, this will screw out and you can fit it into your new manfrotto head.
