    Also consider the Manfratto 190 (with the same ball head) - essentially a slightly smaller and lighter version of the 055, and makes a very good travel tripod.

    A tripod bag from jessops will alloy you to hide it from view while out and about.

    I have a secondhand Manfrotto 190 Pro plus 141RC head, stable but a bit on the heavy side. I have a couple of loops on the back of my backpack and some loops at the bottom. If I thread it through these I do not notice the weight (so much). Its goes even better in the boot of my carSmile

    Perhaps the advice of checking out monopods is a good piece of advice.
