OK I think I get it now, I've been testing all night Wink

unique views... thats one per visitor. Even if the same visitor comes back.. ie. stalkers ... time and time again that stat wont change.

However, stalker stats (views) thats the total amount of views. But.. it doesnt count your own...so you can look as many times as you like in pursuit of your stalker but you wont affect the stats.

Simple....

isn't it?

Wink

OK. I think what is being said here is that if I viewed an image 10 times, for example, the unique view is 1. So effectively a unique view is the first time I view the image, and any subsequent views will not be counted.

This this correct?

Dear EPZ Team, can someone please post the correct definition?

Michael

Yep

Quote: and any subsequent views will not be counted

not in unique views, but in views

you visit an image 10 times, unique views - 1... views - 10

one more try then...

taking Michael's example...

I visit a picture 10 times. In order they appear on the image.. stats records as follows

views = 10
unique views = 1

I often go back to see how a particular image is doing and look at the comments. If this interest is now regarded as stalking I'm a tad offendedSad

just to complicate things a bit :

can we have the Unique Views for the large versions as well ? should be very interesting.

And can the percentage stat be replaced and be calculated between the votes and the unique views rather than between the votes and the views (which is a bit rediculous as someone can view more than once but only vote once).

a definitely more accurate stat! I can see now that no so many look and go as I thought, so I guess my averages of page view to click /comments will go considerably up. the figure may be not as high but more encouraging.

Quote: I don't understand the 24 hour thing. I mean, I know how it works, but not why. 1 person should count as 1 unique viewer, whether they revisit the picture after 5 minutes or 5 days, no?

Yes, ideally we would like to only count 1 unique view regardless of time. However, we have tried to do this in the pass and its simply not practical to store this sort of information. Imagine storing the photo viewing habits of 80,000 people. This would slow the site down to a crawl in the gallery. For this reason, we have implemented the 24 hour restriction.

So basically, the options were
1. Do it for all time and risk slowing the site down
2. Do it for a period of time and risk a little bit of confusion

As mentioned in my previous post, we based the 24 hour restriction off the fact that many other internet related stats use the same time range.
